In 1988, Chile held a national referendum to determine whether the dictator Augusto Pinochet should stay in power. Pablo Larraín’s much-lauded No features Gael García Bernal as the advertising executive who leads the TV campaign for the No vote. This stunning film is a great start to the season and coincides with the fortieth anniversary of the coup d’etat and the fall of Allende on 11 September 1973.
