Scripted by Billy Wilder, this 1931 German adaptation of Eric Kastner’s much-loved children’s book is a thrilling story for children and adults alike. When young Emil is sent to Berlin by his mother the money he is carrying to give to his grandmother is stolen by a man on a train. Once in Berlin, Emil follows the thief and soon enlists the help of a gang of youngsters called ‘the detectives’ to help get the money back. A classic film with a fascinating glimpse of sunshine-drenched 30s Berlin.
