‘As its magical spell takes hold, so the film’s true depths become apparent, each character dealing in their own way with the departure of a parent and issues of love, loyalty and loss.’ Mark Kermode Observer
Three sisters have lived together in their grandmother’s house since the ending of their parents’ marriage. At their father’s funeral they meet their half sister Suzu, 13, fall under her spell and invite her to live with them. A powerful and heartbreaking film of broken childhoods.
‘….the patience of the film making is pretty remarkable, a feat of embroidery slowly taking shape and it inspires a corresponding faith in the willing viewer – it’s an invitation to sit back and settle in for one of Kore-eda’s loveliest films.’ Tim Robey Daily Telegraph
