“Inevitable comparisons have been made with Lena Dunham’s Girls and Sex and the City, but this has more in common with the feistiness of Pedro Almodóvar’s early anarchic friendship fable Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like Mom than with either of those small-screen US antecedents.” Mark Kermode, The Observer

Three very different young Palestinian women share an apartment in Tel Aviv, trying to shape their own destinies in a patriarchal society. Humour is their readiest defence in the culture-war skirmishes between them, but gradually the price of their independence, and their principled commitment to their own autonomy, becomes apparent.

“On a side note … an actual fatwa was issued against Hamoud — the first against a Palestinian in 70 years — for her depictions of homosexuality, intoxication and drug use. That — combined with no less than Isabelle Huppert declaring the women featured in In Between as ‘heroines of our time’ while presenting an award at Cannes last year — is as good a recommendation you can get.” rogerebert.com
